I have finally figured out the things DD direct plus, DoorDarshan’s DTH service is good for. I am sorry if I could not give a lot of points over here, but well thats all that is to the “good” of DoorDarshan DTH.

• Changing of SAT: Yes this is a BIG plus with DD DTH now that we have DishTV and Tata Sky with customized softwares that are no good for changing satellites. You can STILL change to the satellite you want with DoorDarshan DTH meaning you can have customized TP and all the FTA channels on DD DTH as well! and I mean all the FTA channels of the world over here!

• Completely free: Something DD DTH has always been famous for, being completely free, although DD doesn’t offer that many channels, only around 30 last I checked, but well at least they are free.

So well these were the only things I found great about DD DTH that nobody else had, although the awesome thing here is that the point no. 1 is too strong already to push DD DTH up in the market and to make people join DD Direct plus, therefore Doordarshan might get some people just because of this!

And as I always say, be optimistic! Who knows if DD DTH gets much more to offer later in the game? Then it’d be all for good!

   Anil Babu: Yes we are including Surya TV very soon.

   Gautam: You could try getting DD DTH details from your Local TV tower, the people there will advise you in case there are no dealers around you know of.

   Farook: You might try getting a Dish with a higher signal catching capacity, that will help.

   M.K. Parida: You will have to re-adjust the Dish to match the signal of the satellite, try rotating it around, that will help.

    i had been a subsciber of cable for the last 4 yrs. I watch english entertainment channels. No one other than me,in my locality,likes watching english channels. As a result of this, he has shifted all the english channels at the end and the picture and sound qulityis very-very low.Even after repeated requests,cable operator does not help.
    After reading your blog, I am quite disheartened by the services of tata-sky & dish tv. like you i am intrested in buying DD Direct+.
    You have written that i can view FTA channels from other countries.I have checked that NBC and CW network are free to air. So please check if I can view these channels and/or any other english channels. Also if you can specify the directi[on,I would feel highly obliged.
    Please help me in deciding,,what is best for me.

    From very recent past yau have changed the DD1 National as DD Direct+ in DD DTH service. We do not recieve DD National signal on that channel.

    We couldn’t watch the ICC World Cup 2007 which is being telecasted over DD National.

    We have got DD DTH for the superior veiwing of our interested channels DD but we regret your recent move.

    Therefore please make steps to telecast the original DD1 channel rather than DD direct + channel.

    Our aim to have DD DTH is to watch India’s cricket matches on digital format but our expectations were abolished with the new form of DD DIrect+ channel.

    Therefore bring original DD1 National channel.

Finally…. had a chance to look into the Doordarshan DTH, it is a pretty ordinary village oriented dish. Cheap as well, compared to the Dish TV thing. It is like… Rs. 3k or something for the full set I believe.

Channels: There are no cool channels anywhere on this service, mostly because it is focused on being mostly free, so there are no premium paid channels, all Doordarshan regional channels are there, DD Sports, DD news etc. and whatever free stuff is there, like the new news channels etc.

Quality: Good signal quality I must say, it a bit better than DishTV actually, pretty nice, clear picture and nice sound as well.

Features: No features on the STB, it is very rustic.

Durability: This is one Dish I must say that can stand any season, try kicking it, it will move about a bit but the signal won’t deter.

So, concludingly, must say that Doordarshan DTH is definitely not up for competition with Tata and DishTV but nevertheless it is a great option for our villager couterparts to watch TV with.

Be optimistic guys! Maybe you’ll get paid channels and stuff pretty soon as well!

This is because SUN network is going to start their DTH, Just understand that the sun tv is run by Politicians in Tamil Nadu and they share power in Delhi.    February 22nd, 2007 at 10:05 am You can buy the set top box equipment from any Dish TV distributor. Surprisingly Dish TV offers DTH package of Doordarshan as a part of their offer. So, even if you do not subscribe to Dish TV network you can watch all the channels of DD platform + listen to select AIR FM & AM channels - at no monthly charges (compare this with World Space receiver which charges nearly Rs.150 pm for radio channels alone). FM radio channels are with CD quality and is too addictive - especially if you are outside any big city.

   Dish TV distributor will try to push you for subscription but you have to buy only the equipment (currently Rs.2950+200/- installation). As a bonus you can enjoy free preview of all channels of Dish TV package for a week and an unlimited news update from Dish Interactive.

As one of the reader rightly pointed out that the Sun Network shortly may launch its own brand of DTH services, it is owned by powersful people from the Tamilnadu politics and they also controlling the Centre, they are due to their business or vested interested not allowing growing of Doordarshan DTH. It is high time that people at the helm should keep their promises.

Internet on your very own STB, how cool would that be, instead of getting bored watching TV, you can just decide to surf your favorite websites, this is not just a possibility, but is something that is very possible in the future.

If your mobile phone can have internet with a little Data Card inserted into it, why can’t your Television, with DSL access to the Satellite through the STB, provide you High Speed internet? It is very possible, and has been done numerous times in other countries.

So you can just expect that Internet is on its way! After DishTV is done with its new updates and Playjam, and after Tata Sky is done adding all its channels, we will be entitled for THE Internet on our STBs, of course typing etc. wouldn’t be this easy, but who knows? Maybe people will become better typists on their remotes!
