DishTV

Heya,

Found out a strange thing with the DishTV movie on demand feature, when you make an order for a film to be viewed on your STB, you are entitled to pay for the expenses, however you order the movie from your mobile through SMS, therefore, DO NOT give out your Smart Card number to anybody else.

The code to order a movie is like this - “MOD ” and send to 7575. Now, for example if you put someone else’s SC number in there, they will see the movie when they never asked for it and they will also pay for it, and this is a costly affair as well, Rs. 40/- per movie, so you must watch out, and by the way, I’ll test this on Tata Sky and let you people know whether this vulnerability is there as well or not.

Be optimistic nevertheless! Maybe they’ll repair it after the email I am sending them right now.

I stay away for some time frequently from my present residence where Tata sky connection has been installed. Can I get only a dish at the other place where I had to stay and carry my Digicomp set top box and remote and connect it to the dish installed? Is Tata sky can provide this facility.

Recently I have noticed that my software on the STB powered by DishTV has started dying out, it sometimes just fades out and I can’t see the channels, but only the numbers… then it just hangs up, I can’t even change a channel, and it wants a restart or else it won’t work.

Same is happening when I try to use the EPG (Episode Guide), the EPG area becomes all blue and it just won’t revert back to the normal version. I don’t know what is happening in here, but maybe this death of the August 2005 version software of DishTV is the beginning of a new era of the updated version of DishTV?

— Dream Sequence Start —

Where there is the Dish Active service, I can press the red button to view the match from the camera angle I want, then there are games which I can play on my STB, then there would be a channel where I could go and play online games as well. Also EPG would be much improved and what not!

— Dream Sequence end —

Always be optimistic, who knows? Maybe tomorrow I’ll be blogging about how cool was the Dish active update

When I first got DishTV an year or so back, I thought that it didn’t had a wide variety of channels, rightly so, just the regional channels, Zee stuff and no sports channels, no SabTV, No Star, etc. Actually people at my home thought that getting DishTV was a bad idea. It would be exaggeration if I say that I knew it wasn’t and stuff, because I thought the same, DishTV = Bad Idea.

Our cable operator provided much more channels afterall, even when there was no clarity, we thought we could bear with it. But getting DishTV was a significant investment (Rs. 10k), so going back to the ancient era would had been a tad too costly.

We stuck with DishTV, and the channels started growing in number, day by day, we got more and more channels. What was 75 to start off with, has become 165 by date, along with 30 Radio Channels, who needs Worldspace?

It now has all channels I can think of, ranging from Sony’s channels to the Star Channels, Zee’s Channels have always been there, National Geographic Channel, Discovery, Pogo, Disney Channel, all the news channels, everything.

Therefore I am pretty happy with the DishTV channel bonanza, will give you people a list of available channels pretty soon as well, so you can actually know which channels are there by this Satellite provider.

The same thing that was with DishTV is now happening with TataSky although, it reportedly only has around 70 Channels to start off with, therefore I’d like to advise all the subscribers of TataSky to stick with it and to not look around in anguish as the channels will come with time too, and you will regret the days you used to curse your dear little Dish.

Nevertheless, be Optimistic!

The following three satellites are responsible for telecasting Indian Channels

    I hope this will help:

    Tata Sky

    Dish TV

    DD Direct Plus

Movies on Demand are a regular feature of Tata Sky as well as DishTV, they update their movies section every week, its like, they make a movie available for you, then… you order it through your mobile phone or through giving their special landline number a call.

However these movies cost you Rs. 40 on DishTV and Rs. 80 on Tata Sky, expensive? Yes of course they are expensive, but after all their reasoning for this is that you can have as many people view the movie as you want, and you get about 48 hours viewing the movie. But Rs. 40-80 for a movie viewing on Television just doesn’t sound great. Reasons?

  • The General mentality: Movie will come free to air after a while anyways
  • Lack of the Theatre effect: Now you know what I am talking about
  • Last but not the least, NO POPCORN!

Movie on Demand, just doesn’t fit in the normal guy’s criteria, although I have an Idea for you DTH people, if you can provide people with a library of movies for anytime viewing and slash the rates to Rs. 20/-, and cut down the viewing time to 24 hours. You can really start earning from this.

Maybe the DTH people will read this entry of mine afterall and make changes for all of us, who knows, Be optimistic!

  1. Mr.Payer says:
The DTH Broadcasters are exploiting the rural as well as urban people.

In complete in a sense that the rental is also very high. For Dish welcome package Dish TV charges i.e “Rs.240+Taxes=262″ which is quite impossible for the rural viewers. They are also pushing for the Dish Maxi package which will cost a bomb i.e. more than Rs. 300/-. But the Customer care says that “If u will pay a little more than dish welcome package then u r getting 160 channels.”

u see nobody will watch all the channels at a time in a single TV, secondly, such channels include so many regional channels which should not be in count.

u can’t watch more than one TV (if u want than u have to add Rs.100/- per TV) which is just ridiculous. One can get more facility from the local cable operator. But what to do with the local area people.

They must have to pay for those regional & international language channels , even though they don’t understand.

It should be in a manner that one should pay only for the required channels but not for all channels (Like Conditional Access System). Otherwise the packages should be revised, like in the current package selection no one can choose all the English Channels / Kids Channels / Movie Channels. Also most of the channels have been wiped out like: SaharaOne, Sahara Filmy, Boomerang, CCTV, Australia Network (ABC Asia Pacific), AXN (Banned by the regularity Authority) etc.

I hope the management will cut down the monthly rentals & may consider the above factors.

Internet on your very own STB, how cool would that be, instead of getting bored watching TV, you can just decide to surf your favorite websites, this is not just a possibility, but is something that is very possible in the future.

If your mobile phone can have internet with a little Data Card inserted into it, why can’t your Television, with DSL access to the Satellite through the STB, provide you High Speed internet? It is very possible, and has been done numerous times in other countries.

So you can just expect that Internet is on its way! After DishTV is done with its new updates and Playjam, and after Tata Sky is done adding all its channels, we will be entitled for THE Internet on our STBs, of course typing etc. wouldn’t be this easy, but who knows? Maybe people will become better typists on their remotes!

Be optimistic
