Introduction to Sun Direct and its features

Sun Direct is the Joint venture between Sun Network & Astro Group . Where Sun Network holds 80% and Astro Group holds remaining 20% . Sun Direct TV was planed to launch on February 16, 2005 , but didn't due to failuring in launch of INSAT 4C . And on 18th Jan 2008 after Sun Direct finally started on INSAT 4B.
It Uses MPEG-4 Digital Compression Technology for transmitting channels and it is INDIA"s first MPEG-4 DTH service provider.

Sun Direct Currently using Two Satellites for telecasting it's programmes .

MEASAT-3 at 91.5°E → For telecasting all Standard-definition Channels
INSAT 4B at 93.5°E → For telecasting all High-definition Channels

Presently Sun Direct has 7 transponders . 4 TPs from MEASAT-3 and 3 remaining TPs from Insat 4B . Also thorugh an exclusive agreement with RDTV , Sun Direct Shares 2 TP's of RDTV in Measat-3 to get 58 FTA Channels .

Presently Sun Direct has nearly 7 million customers and it has highest percentage of active customers .

Currently Sun Direst has 171 Standard-definition Channels (Including RDTV FTA Channels) and 8 High-definition Channels .Also Sun Direct has 8 Radio channels .
