Aksh Optifibre unveils A-Tel IPTV service

Aksh Optifibre Ltd, in collaboration with MTNL, has unveiled its IPTV service - A-Tel, and video phone calling service - V Spyk, for Mumbai. All Mumbai-based MTNL broadband subscribers can soon enjoy the facility of Aksh's IPTV and video phone calling services.

RSP Sinha, Chairman and Managing director, MTNL, said, "Consumers expect services that are both innovative and affordable from MTNL. With the endless possibilities available with IPTV and video phone calling services, the expectations would be fulfilled. MTNL has tied up with Aksh to provide the best services for optimum consumer satisfaction."

Dr KS Choudhari, Managing director, Aksh Optifibre Ltd, said, "Aksh has always believed in providing its customers with the most affordable services, positioning it as a mass service provider. Taking this objective further, Aksh was the first company to bring IPTV to India in 2006 and now we have done it again by bringing video phone calling service in India. With the advantages offered by A-Tel and V Spyk, the services can potentially reach over 40 million consumers nation wide."

One of the advantages of the IPTV service is the ability to integrate television broadcast with other IP-based services like high speed Internet access and voice-over-Internet – all accessible on the television set.

A-Tel is available to subscribers for Rs 1,000, which is inclusive of a reimbursable security deposit and six months of free subscription. A combo deal of A-Tel and V Spyk (VoIP) would come at a price of Rs 1,460, in which the subscribers would get an A-Tel set-up box and one year's free subscription with access to 100 channels at no additional cost. It also gives lifetime free rental for Spyk Internet telephony's analogue telephone adaptor (ATA).

In the next two years, Aksh Optifibre plans to invest about Rs 100 crores towards the IPTV and VoIP project. It may be noted that the company, has already invested Rs 60 crores towards the franchisee arrangement with MTNL.
