MUMBAI: Ekta Kapoor may have lost the battle to the channel to get an extension of her serial, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, but there is every chance of the India's longest-running daily soap returning in a new avatar on a different channel.
Television industry insiders say there is a possibility of the serial going to another channel and that Kapoor is talking to that channel. Kapoor, however, refused to comment on the issue.
But one of her senior unit members told TOI: ``We have also heard that she is planning a sequel to the serial. It is quite evident from the way it ended on Star with the entry of Parvati from Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki .''
Kapoor had taken Star TV to court, challenging the abrupt termination of the show citing low TRPs. ``It came as a shock to all of us. Kyunki is still hugely popular among audiences. It will be nice if it returns in a new avatar,'' a unit member said.
Kyunki... was taken off the air after about 1800 episodes on Star Plus. The story of a Gujarati joint family, the Viranis, the serial was launched in October 2003 and became a trend-setter for saas-bahu serials.
