Arun Kapoor put in his papers at Reliance Big TV

Arun Kapoor, CEO and president, Reliance Big TV, has put in his papers at the DTH company just after four months of joining.
His resignation has surprised the DTH industry as Big TV was launched just two months ago and Kapoor had announced long-term plans for the company.
Kapoor could not be contacted for comments despite repeated attempts made by Televisionpoint.com. Meanwhile, Reliance ADAG has mandated HR consultancies to recruit a new CEO for its DTH venture.
However, Mahesh Prasad has been made acting president, Big TV. Prasad, who had been with Big TV since its inception, has been the president, applications, solutions and content group, Reliance Communications.
Kapoor joined the Big TV from Dish TV, where he was the CEO since 2006. Before joining Dish TV, he was associated with Hutchison Essar South Ltd as CEO for the Punjab Circle.
A management graduate from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute, Mumbai, Kapoor has been instrumental in setting up and managing operations for Bharti Group/ Spice Cell Ltd and then for Hutch for the Punjab circle.

ARUN KAPOOR JOINS ESSEL GROUP AS DIRECTOR DISTRIBUTION BIZ

MUMBAI: After a short stint in Reliance ADAG’s DTH service company Big TV, Arun Kapoor has come back to Zee Group. His new designation: Essel Group director - distribution businesses.

A newly created position, Kapoor will head the subscription and placement business for Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (Zeel), Wire & Wireless India Ltd (WWIL) and Zee Turner Ltd.

Dish TV, Zee’s demerged DTH company, will, however, stay out of Kapoor’s ambit. Interestingly, Kapoor was serving as Dish TV CEO before he joined Big TV as president.

When contacted, Essel Group spokesperson declined to comment on why Dish TV was kept outside the restructured distribution umbrella of the network.

Kapoor will be reporting directly to Zee Group chairman Subhash Chandra.
