RE: Picture quality
Well STB is have Signal Catcher which they get data from LNB which recived sigansl from Satellite. So it all depends on DTH opertors do in Transponder.

Even you join 800 Rs Beetal STB with TS, you will get same quality as that costly Thomson one.

kythunder' Wrote:price= for ur reminder that ts stb are maid by thomson(philips) the picture qwality of ts is great becuse its matarial used in it. philips use dynamic signal booster in its products so the output signals of ts are also good.

First the Stb for Big tv is also made by good company Hundyai . If you place TS and Big tv side by side and tune to the same channel, you will find Big tv is much better.
Second if picture getting dim due to hanging, then its issue with the software not hardware. Its due to load on memory and processor only. If it was due to hardware, why the picture comes back perfect after restarting? If it was due to hardware, the issue was there permanently. For software. They have yet to release the final ver. It will fix this issue

RE: Picture quality
Well do see BIG TV first before making comments. If you don't have BIG TV then not make false information here. Check comments of exciting BIG TV users they rated BIG TV's picture quality and audio quality excellent.

So better you stay in Dish Tv section as you only have Dish TV.

RE: Picture quality
Here's my 2 cents on this topic....

All the DTH guys advertise and claim that they have DVD qualtiy picture (DishTV, TataSky, SunDTH and BIgTV), but only BigTV STB have componenet video output, rest all give their STB with mere composite video output.

Component Video output = 480i signal equivalnet to DVD picture quality

Compositve Video output =VHS quality analog video ouput.

Even though all the DTH Satellite tranmission are digital (MPEG2 and MPEG4), except BiG TV none of them will be able to output them because of their's STB limitation.

But even with BiGTV, there is a limiation of the signal feed from broadcasters. I seriously doubt if the broadcasters gives "DVD quality" feed to the DTH operator!!!

My opinion of having any DTH connection in India, is like having a high quality noise free "Cable TV" kind of connection, but not a DVD quality picture connection!!!

You are spot on. Brodcaster sometimes provide very bad quality of signals and I can support with you. In Dish Tv I have Bad quality feed from Star untill year end of 2007 then it is change. Brodcasters also plan a vital role in DTH quality if they not provie proper feed then no DTH can make it better.

On the best examle is Total TV and Jain Tv which was/is on DD Direct+ where they share more then 5 MB/Second B/W but both channels quality is dull because brodcaster have no proper technology.

RE: Picture quality
Every News channel is mentioning that watch their channel in Digital quality in Bigtv,, But they have never mentioned to watch their channel in Digital quality in Dishtv..From this itself we can be sure that Dishtv is not providing Digital service .

If really so they give digital feed, but then BiGTV themselves not taking this seriously....

Today I was there in a Trade fair in Chennai, and I went to the BigTV stall and they had the BiG TV connected to a 40" LCD TV using a composite video cable... And I asked them why they didn't use component output, none of the BiG TV guys know what is componenet output means...How sad.. Sad

Digital feed from Channel-> Digital Satellite Transmission -> Composite output from STB = ANALOG QUALITY VIDEO only!!!

All DTH operators in India including BiG TV is to capture only the cable TV subscribers, who are struggling with the noisy cable TV connections and telling them the video clarity in DTH is becos of DVD quality output!!!

My unbiased opinion of BiG TV video quality from what I have seen from the BiG TV demonstration centers are inferior to that of DishTV video quality that I have at my house. It may be because those biGTV guys not have their LCD TV settings done properly!!!
