Hi friends ,

This is a new thread that I'm posting so that We will all know the strengths and weakness of all DTH Providers ...........

In India we have 6 DTH Providers . The criteria's for rating the DTH Providers are as below :

1. Picture Quality
2. Sound Clarity
3. Cost of packages
4. Cost of add-on-packages
5. How effective is the Set top box and Dish in adverse weather conditions
6. How long does it take for the signal to be restored during heavy rainfall
7. Condition of the remote and the Set top box
8. Content available in Packages and in add on packages

Please moderators do not close this thread as this thread is required to find out which is the best and based on every body's ratings , it would be beneficial for all people who are fed up with their DTH Connections or want an improved DTH Service .

Hi friends ,

My Name is Emmanuel and I'm using Dish TV since September 2009 and here is my ratings :

1. Picture Quality - Uses MPEG 2 Compression . Slightly better than cable tv and rating is 5/10
2. Sound Clarity - Uses MPEG2 Compression and sound quality lacks base and treble even if you have a tv with good graphic equaliser . Only volume is there but no effect. Sound quality rating is 4/10
3. Cost of packages - It's ok but not great . Rating is 5/10
4. Cost of add-on-packages - Very reasonable , rating is 7/10
5. How effective is the Set top box and Dish in adverse weather conditions - it is pretty good as the set top box and dish reacts well during adverse weather conditions . rating is 7/10
6. How long does it take for the signal to be restored during heavy rainfall - Max 5-7 Minutes , rating is 7/10
7. Condition of the remote and the Set top box - Very good , no problems as it does not hang at all . Rating is 10/10
8. Content available in Packages and in add on packages - reasonable in packs and rating is 6/10 and very good in Add on packages and rating is 8/10

9. Customer Service - though initially was not good ..... it is improving ......... i give customer service 4/10..............

10. Addition of new channels : it is inadequate . rating is 2/10.

Ps : thank you for reminding me to place a rating for customer care.

Guys please post your posts on all remaining DTH Operators like Dish TV , Tata Sky , Sun Direct , Videocon D2H , Airtel Digital TV and Reliance Big TV.

2. Sound Clarity did not observe not connect to any
3. Cost of packages .As on today D2h is the cheapest of all
4. Cost of add-on-packages OK
5. How effective is the Set top box and Dish in adverse weather conditions let us see in rainy season
6. How long does it take for the signal to be restored during heavy rainfall
7. Condition of the remote and the Set top box hardware is upto standard .initial loding takes a bit time
8. Content available in Packages and in add on packages : perfect

At the end direct hai correct hai

Bigtv :

1. Picture Quality - 10/10 and 9/10 for zoom tv
2. Sound Clarity - 10/10 for stereo and 1/10 for 5.1 even though stb2 has a spdif, radio channels sucks

3. Cost of packages - 10/10

4. Cost of add-on-packages - 10/10 but depends on what you need,

5. How effective is the Set top box and Dish in adverse weather conditions
: you cant generalize , i guess its to do with you sun direct issue but very rare u hv outages, but for middle east users its now at 0 i guess, ankur and others can add on to this.

6. How long does it take for the signal to be restored during heavy rainfall
depends on the rain but around 5 -10 mins

7. Condition of the remote and the Set top box
Remote : good
Stb's : stb 1 10/10 , stb 3 : 7/10 and stb 2: 8/10

8. Content available in Packages and in add on packages
cover's all what is needed ( all india packages except the lousy real tv and HD)

You have missed out on imp issue: customer care and i rate a 2/10, basically they are deaf, they have a common script which is read out on the phone, a common email template response if you send an email

My two cents to your questions
9) ease of renewals : 10/10

My personal over all opinion is i would rate tata sky as numero uno followed by all the other jokers in the dth pack aka wolf pack.

3. Cost of packages .As on today D2h is the cheapest of all------> yes still give an generic explanation and rating .
4. Cost of add-on-packages OK -----------> again please give rating

I am Using Dishtv Since long:

1. Picture Quality - Picture quality is good (Using 21 & 29 Inch TV) and its good on both.

2. Sound Clarity - Sound quality is also good.

3. Cost of packages- Very Economical, Not the cheapest of All but value for your money.

4. Cost of add-on-packages: - I must say best and very economical add-on Packs.

5. How effective is the Set top box and Dish in adverse weather conditions:- Well rain outage is their in each and every DTH.

6. How long does it take for the signal to be restored during heavy rainfall. It depends on the whether condition as well....generally it takes from few seconds to few minutes as well.

7. Condition of the remote and the Set top box - Very Good, No problem related to any Hardware and software till now.

8. Content available in Packages and in add on packages:- very good and as per the need of the user as well.

Here's in for Tata Sky:

1. Picture Quality= Picture Quality is good, wud give a 9

2. Sound Clarity= Sound is also good, 8

3. Cost of packages= Worst. TS needs a BIG update or change in this section

4. Cost of add-on-packages= Another section that TS needs to looks upon

5. How effective is the Set top box and Dish in adverse weather conditions= Here TS scores well. Wud give 7

6. How long does it take for the signal to be restored during heavy rainfall=Around 2-3 mins

7. Condition of the remote and the Set top box= Best STB in terms of its quality. Remote is stylish and very easy to operate. Scores a perfect 10. Sky products are quality products

8. Content available in Packages and in add on packages= Useless packs. Very high cost.


Also u need to mentione Customer care, TS scores a perfect 10 in this regard. CC is the best among all DTH's
