Sneak Peek: Tata Sky Plus Mobile Recording Software (Symbian 5th edition)
If you discount android and the iphone, symbian 5th is the most advanced mobile OS there is right now. It can run flash animations (something which even the iphone 4 and the ipad cant do). Tata Sky Plus' mobile recording software utilises these awesome features and made their mobile software. Now the thing is, there wasnt a symbian 5th edition of this recording software until very recently (more specifically less than a week back). Please note: Other versions of the software may not have as many features as the version shown here.

The programmers have utilised flash animations and its very evident in the way the icons and the Tata Sky logo appear. The app has full EPG data (restricted to 2 days for limiting data usage I presume) and full program info and of course you can record from there. Now tell you what, I am a software freak and I have more than 60 apps on my mobile. If I had to rate Tata Sky's mobile app out of 10, I'd gladly give it an 8. I would rate it even higher if they had a scroll bar rather than scroll buttons and had record cancellation options. Looks wise pretty sleek. Now I dont know if this is a feature which Sky Plus in the UK has, but if it doesnt this is an indication that Tata Sky will do business the Indian way here.

Anyway, enough talk, take a look at some of the screenshots:

RE: Sneak Peek: Tata Sky Plus Mobile Recording Software (Symbian 5th edition)
Nice review. Just one technical correction. This is s60 5th edition of Symbian software. s60 is a specialised category of Symbian for Nokia Phones. And all of these i.e. Nokia 5800, N97, N97 Mini, X6 belong to Symbian 1 or Symbian 1st. Till date, No Model from any manufacturer operating on Symbian 4 or 5 has been announced. The latest phone, N8 from Nokia runs on Symbian 3. So, it's correct to call it s60 5th edition and not Symbian 5th. Smile

[If you have any doubt regarding correctness of my data, refer to forum.nokia.com or fonearena.com or symbian.org.]

what you're referring to is symbian^1. which includes symbian 1st,2nd,3rd and 5th ed. however each of them under symbian^1 is different.

Newer models which will be released later this year or the next, will have symbian^3 eg. the N8, not yet released. and of course there's nothing called symbian^4 or symbian^5 as of now. but there is definitely symbian 5th, and its currently nokia's most powerful OS. (there wont be a symbian 4th or symbian^4 coz of superstitions. thats a fact Big Grin)

Refer to this page: "Announced on 2 December 2008,[2][3][4] the N97 is Nokia's second touchscreen phone (after the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic) based on the Symbian OS S60 5th edition platform." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_N97)

Just asking because that gives you an alternative way to track your account; as Airtel offers it in digital TV Recorder application.

You are correct in the last line. Symbian OS s60 5th edition or simply s60 5th edition is correct but stating Symbian 1,2,3,4. etc... would mean symbian^1,symbian^2,symbian^3,symbian^4, which is incorrect when considering 5800 XpressMusic, N97 etc.. Only correct to say Symbian 3 if referring to N8.
Also, Symbian 4 and 5 are there under research; expected to run F Series phones of Nokia, which will be announced sometime in 2011.
You may refer symbian.org(official website of Symbian software for correctness of version/edition names.)

lets get this over with Smile if u check all the posts here, i have mentioned symbian 5th edition throughout. that means symbian s60 5th edition which is what i meant. had i said symbian^3 or something it would have been different. point is, you got what i meant.

It of course is O.K. as always we do not need to refer exact technical names. I just got into details to give a clear idea, in case someone is confused between Symbian and s60. Smile
