Sun Direct expands DTH service to North India

After mopping up a million subscribers in the Southern market in a short span of 200 days, Sun Direct, the Sun TV Network's direct-to-home (DTH) service, is foraying into Northern India.

The Chennai-based service provider has rolled out in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat.


It is pumping Rs 1.5 billion for expanding its subscribers base to 3 million by the end of this year.

Sun Direct COO Tony D’Silva said, “We are all set for a pan- India launch of our services. We have created strong logistics, servicing and marketing teams across all regions to ensure that customers have the best of service and DVD quality entertainment at an affordable price.”

As an introductory offer, the company is offering a basic package of over 130-plus channels at a price of Rs 999 for a 10-month subscription. The offer also includes free dish and set top box with Rs 1000 towards installation charges.


The company targets a subscribers base of 1.4 million from these states. "We have achieved 1.4 million subscribers in the four southern states since we launched in December 2007 and we plan to achieve the same number of subscribers from this region," he said. Currently, the company is importing set top boxes from China and Taiwan.
Sun Direct is planning to launch its service in North East, Orissa, Maharashtra and West Bengal and subsequently in UP, MP and Bihar. Sun Direct is a 80:20 joint venture between the Maran family and the Malaysia-based Astro Group.

looks good for 99/- but then hardly any hindi movie channels except UTV.. have to shell out more money to get more channels and will end up more costly.

it shows the new comedy channels as VOD
vasanth tv included in the Tamil basic package
z kannanda and z telugu are alcarte channels

Only problem on SUN DIRECT is toon disney channel available only on pluto plus package and
Hungama channel available only on pluto super package.

Therefore, we can't get those channels unless pay Rs 55.00 & Rs 55.00 separately for only for these 2 channels.

SUN DIRECT should consider these issues.

even i cant understand their pack of pluto plus and pluto super........both costs 55rs.. instead of putting it as pluto super at same cost they could have added it in pluto plus itself..

Well Sony is not their sun direct 99 pack.

Where as dishtv silver (Rs.99 + tax) pack contains
1. Zee tv,
2. Sony
3. 9X
4. NDTV Imagine
5. Sahara One
6. Star Utsav
7. Zee Next
8. Zee Smile

So what i mean to say is even dishtv pack is also good with 8 Entertainment channels in SILVER PACK

Well they added Sony and AXN in base pack for Sun DTH North Indian users. So they have all those channels including Colors and Bindass channels on Sun Base pack.
