Tdsat asks Prasar Bharati to restore 3 Zee channels

MUMBAI: Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (Tdsat) has directed Prasar Bharati to put back signals of Zee Group’s three channels on its direct-to-home (DTH) platform DD Direct Plus.

The three channels include Zee Smile, Zee Jagran and ETC Music.

Accepting a petition filed by Zee-Turner, Tdsat issued a notice to Prasar Bharati directing it to file a reply.


"Prasar Bharati is directed to restore Zee-Turner's three channels -- Zee Smile, Zee Jagaran and ETC Music -- on DD direct," said the Tdsat bench headed by Justice Arun Kumar.

In its petition, Zee-Turner alleged that Prasar Bharati had disconnected signals from DD Direct Plus for not paying the carriage fee. It further submitted that the earlier carriage-fee was Rs 2.5 million only. Prasar Bharati had increased it to Rs 6 million.


Zee-Turner also submitted that prior to disconnection, Prasar Bharati did not give serve any notice. "We are ready to deposit Rs 6 million, subject to the final outcome of the order," Zee-Turner counsel said.

Last week, Tdsat had directed Prasar Bharati to restore Total Telefilms and Chardhikala TV on DD Direct Plus after accepting Rs 2.5 million deposit. The two channels had approached Tdsat against DD Direct's move to increase carriage fee.

The next hearing will be on 13 October.

Well as of now only ETC Music is coming and Zee Smile and Zee Jagran are yet to be restored. Also I hope that all other chs are restored soon after TDSAT's ruling..!
