Two pvt channels moves TDSAT against Prasar Bharti

New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) Two private channels have approached sectoral tribunal TDSAT against Prasar Bharti's move to increase the fee for carrying their channels on its DTH platform DD Direct.

Accepting the requests, TDSAT directed to implead Telecom Regulatory Authority of India as a party in these suits.

Total Telefilms and Chardhikala Time TV, a Punjab-based channel, have submitted before the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal that Prasar Bharti is demanding Rs 60 lakh from them for keeping their channels on DD Direct.

The channels said that earlier the fee was only Rs 25 lakh, but now they are demanding Rs 60 lakh. Total Telefilms also submitted that its agreement with Prasar Bharti was ending on September 5, 2008.

TDSAT directed, "In view of the facts of the case, we permit the petitioner (Total) to deposit a sum of Rs 25 lakh with the respondent towards the carriage fee on a provisional basis... The respondent will continue to carry the channel." The channels submitted that there was no provision for any carriage fee either in the TRAI Act or any regulations issued by TRAI itself. They further submitted that not only DTH operators but Multi System Operators are also charging carriage fee from them.

Yes and they should give direction to DD to increase some channels which are ready to share feed on DD. They can use Revenu base system means brodcaster will share some parts of profit.

Well I hope that these 2 chs and some other good chs are not removed because of this stupid move from PB. TRAI should wack them for this. Also it should ask them to allow chs to be added on the platform that are ready to pay the fees...!!

Hi Bilal , u can go to Prasar Bharathi office and u can ask there, u will get an answer.
