RE: Upgrade to MPEG-4 in September
We all expect that Dialog DTH add more Tamil Channels in their line up. But upto date they have only 3 tamil channels.
1)TBO
2)Vijay Tv
3)Kalanjar Tv.

Where as they have more Hindi Channels. In Sri Lanka no one speak Hindi.

So the simple question is why they can't add tamil channels in place of hindi channels?

@ Amatan
We will surely get Indian channel, both Tamil and Hindi. Hindi channels increase because of boquet contracts with the broadcasters. That we do not need in Sri Lanka. But Tamil channels increase because Dialog wants to tap into the Tamil-speaking community in Sri Lanka. And most Tamil channels are Indian, so mainly Indian channels will be added.
So I think it is safe to believe that Dialog will add more Tamil channels.

Lets wait and see. Dialog has already added Kalaingar.

The problem is that Dialog has boquet contracts with broadcasters so they can get the collection of channels at less price than individually. So when we get Zee Studio, Zee Trenz and Zee Cafe we also get Zee Cinema and Zee TV in the boquet. If Dialog gets Zee Cafe and Studio seperately we may have to pay more. That is the most logical explanation I can think of.

Unfortunately Tamil channels are often not parts of the boquets Dialog currently subscribes to. So Dialog has to venture out to get these channels seperately. Dialog is doing so, as it seems.

@technoguy_lk,

I totally agreed with your point. But even if they get as a package (boquet) with Hindi channels, it is not necessary for them to telecast those Hindi channels. They can simply telecast only english channels.

If we take SUN package, we will get 5 tamil (good) channels. If we take RAJ package, we will get 4 tamil channels. I am sure Dialog can add those channels easily.

But the contract for the boquet usually requires all the channels included to be broadcasted. For example, if Dialog stops broadcasting Zee TV for a long period of time they may lose all the Zee channels.

Some broadcasters allow the DTH network to not broadcast a certain channels for a short period of time. In recent times Dialog had stopped broadcasting one or two Sony Entertainment channels for a month or two when the space was needed for other channels. But eventually the channels were reintroduced.
The distribution of new decoders is well under way now. If you have got the letter and you are in the premium package, then you should contact Dialog on a date and time to install the new decoder. If you are a premium package holder but have not got the letter yet, then be patient and wait till around mid-September.

Dialog is evidently using a batch system to distribute decoders, so it will take a while to do the job. But as far as we know the distribution is actually going quite efficiently.

I will post details on the new decoder when I receive it myself. So far I have not received the letter.

RE: Upgrade to MPEG-4 in September
It's Very Good word of amatan !

Yes , try to get Srilankan Channels like Deepam , Thenral, tamil oli,Dan Tv and Some of
foreign country tamil channels operated from Srilankan people.

Here India is not good in Video & Audio services.

Ex , Check the quality of FM Service from Insat 4 B transmission of Rainbow Chennai, Suriyan FM

It is very worst. Fm Rainbow comes Stereo, operated by Central Govt of India but Suriyan FM operated by own Management it is come Mono. Very bad.

But your ST 1 88*E gives Sooriyan ,Vettri,Sakthi a very good surround ,prologic based stereo
gives very good result.

Also SLRC 74*E Edusat comes stereo,But Sun DTH HBO & Star movies only Stereo.

So i suggest & accept teh Srilankanns are very good Video and Audio.

FM :

I know some oral news in Srilanks SLBC have constuct the Transmitter in hill at 2500 Mts
height from Sea level. Is it true ?

As far as I know SLRC (Rupavahini, Channel Eye, Nethra TV, Udayan TV) have always had a transmitter on Pidurutalagala mountain (2524m approx.). So even lower areas of Tamil Nadu can get good signal. But I am not sure about SLBC radio.

And I'm afraid we can't expect Dialog to introduce foreign-based Sri Lankan channels. Dialog cannot make a profit out of those channels because many do not know that they even exist.

Anyway for now lets hope that Dialog introduces more Tamil channels.

@Dialog TV,

Why Udayan signal is weak?

Even we can see it in Colombo. How can see that channel in Tamil Nadu?
