completely different terms really.

MPEG 4 is a compression technology. it compresses a video so that it essentially consumes less bandwidth while transferring data/consumes less space on a disc, without substantial loss in quality. The user will not experience any difference in quality but the operator will. The fact that different DTH operators have different pic quality has nothing to do with mpeg 4. eg. ADTV and Big TV both use mpeg4, but Big TV has a better picture quality than ADTV. ADTV claims to use DVBS2, but frankly speaking, its very very difficult (if not impossible) to spot the minute difference between S1 and S2 versions, more so if you are using a hi def tv.

DVD quality literally is something which resembles the DVD resolution, i.e 720x480 or 720x576 pixels. Now i am assuming u wanted to ask about mpeg2 (which tata sky uses). MPEG 2 is incapable of compression like MPEG 4, hence it consumes more bandwidth/more space on a disc. Again, MPEG 2 has nothing to do with pic quality. Tata Sky and Dish TV both use mpeg2, but Tata Sky has a better pic quality, comparable to ADTV. (I am not talking about Tata Sky + here, which of course has a pic quality only second to Big TV)

Bottomline, mpeg4 DTH have a better chance of adding new channels due to saved transponder space. However, there is no evidence that the saved transponder space will effectively translate to new channels being added. Tata Sky has added quite a few channels recently even though its using mpeg2. Also note, at the end of the day, this is more for the benefit of the DTH operators than of consumers.

i presume ur asking me the question.

i havent taken a demo of d2h (i never felt the need to since i already have tata sky +), but from what i hear, its as good as adtv's pic quality. if that is the case,i would say the pic quality is very slightly better/at par with tata sky. you should take a demo yourself to decide which one u think is better.

what do u mean? if u mean the oldest, then its tata sky and dish tv.

if u mean rankwise, its difficult to pass a judgement. do ur research, see the packages, then decide.
