Which output is better for Big tv
I would just like to know which all outputs like component, dvi, hdmi, etc can be used in big tv and which gives the best result. I am not much aware of the above outputs but my TV has themSmile so wanted to know if it can help me in getting better quality.

Experts please pitch in and if possible please give a brief on what all these stands for in simple language and how to connect bigtv using these

Thanks

well in above all the HDMI is the best, second DVI , then component, then s-video, then composite.
HDMI has the greatest bandwidth. It can carry full 1080p resolution HD video signal and full Dolby Digital ProLogic sound.
DVI has less bandwidth so even the dual link DVI-I cable( best ver of dvi cable) can carry 1080p video signal only. For audio you will have to seperate source like SPDIF . So its mostly used in connecting display to computer.
Component can carry video signal upto 780p only and uses other audio source like audio out ports or SPDIF. component has 3 video ports
s.video has lesser video quality but better than VGA port of computer. Can carry only video signal.
Composite is the least video quality and has only stereo sound. Its is also called AV. Composite has 1video port

note the cable build quality also matters. The cable could range from 200 to 2500 Rs

Currently Reliance has only component and composite ports only in the present STB. Composite has 1video port and component has 3 video ports. They share the 2 audio L + R ports
STB has one RF port to. Its the same port you use to connect cable on TV . But the quality is not good. If you have component on your tV , use that with the best quality cable . Dont see the price if you could afford them, you will see the difference in Cinema channel

Reliance has plan to launch STB with HDMI port too when HD channels will be available in India

I am a DTH expert. That doesnt mean that I would endorse that DTH and hide true cons about it

RE: Which output is better for Big tv
Hey thanks .. its a complete solution in one post Smile
One more query, will the component cable provide improvement in cinema channels only or all other channels will improve.By improvement I mean drastic, if it is very small then not worth of putting around 1500-2000 for the wire.

Well I said Cinema channels as I am sure about it that you will get the best quality.
The reason the source of Cinema is Big tv itself while the source for other channels are the broadcaster, so it depends on the feed they have provided. However you will see the difference in Star Movies and HBO too. I have read some where in this forum itself as somebody is using component. For rest of I personally think there will some difference as component will ofcourse better picture

As alamodein said, if the signal feed from channels are not very good then there is no difference in using component or composite...

BiGTV has be biggest advantage of having the component output in their STB, they can very well use this as their USP and able to get us a real DVD quality picture, only thing is they have to demand a DVD quality feed from the channels!!
